Apple Group increase Target Indonesian Coal Output in 2011

Coal miner PT Apple Coal & Mineral Indonesia plans to increase the production of its coal mines to 4 million tons in 2011 from this year’s target of 2 million tons. PT Apple Coal & Mineral Indonesia is a joint venture between India firm Apple Group and PT Motus Gemilang, Motus Gemilang Director Ben Lawson told.

The company has three coalmines in South Sumatra and four in East Kalimantan. Currently, the company’s coal output is derived from one coalmine in Musi Banyuasin regency and two other mines in East Kalimantan, which are located in Loa Kulu and Muara Badak areas, respectively. 

The Three coal mines are expected to produce a total of around 2 million tons of coal in this year, he said.
Other coalmines are expected to start the production next year. “So, next year, we plan to double our production target,” he said. The company is still looking to acquire coalmines, he added.


According to Apple Group’s website, PT Apple Coal Indonesia is a wholly owned trading subsidiary of Apple Commodities Ltd. Of India. The website said the company owns coalmines in South Sumatra, which have 200 million ton of steam grade coal reserves. It is also running the concessions in East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan under a joint cooperation scheme.

The company has acquired two different concessions in Kalimantan, which have over 30 million metric tons of non-coking steam coal reserves. The coal’s gross calorific value (GCV) ranges from 5800/5600 Kcal/kg up to 6700/6500 Kcal.
